What is more fun then having enough snow to make a snow man? You have to build them with a top hat and give them a carrot nose.

Description

The Forum Module provides registered users of your site a way to interact to discus topics, ask questions, and provide feedback. Lots of businesses/organizations will use a forum on their site as a form of support for their services and/or products. It allows customers/users to ask post questions and commments. The posts on the forum will remain as longs as they are not deleted, so users can also search on discussions that have already occured.

The forum has countless options. Some of those options include user rankings according to how many posts they have made, rating posts, e-mail notifications when posts or changes are made to threads, and the forum can be syndicated (RSS feed).

If your forum is viewable to all users, anyone can view all of the posts, but only registered users can make posts to the forum.

Quick Tour

Minimize
This Quick Tour provides an overview of how the Forum module works. The three screen shots below are the three main views a user will work with when utilizing the forum module. The module also provides some help as you use it, for example hover your mouse over a graphic icon to get "tool tip" text that helps explain what it means.

This is the default Home view of the Forum Module. The key components to point out here are:

1. Navigation Buttons (from left to right):

My Settings (only present when logged in) - Takes you to a page that allows you manage your information for the forum and customize how you interact with the forum.

My Posts (only present when logged in)- Takes you to a page that list only threads that you have made a post.

Search - Takes you to a page to perform an advanced search within the forums

Home - Returns you to the default/top level view of the forum.

2. Breadcrumb Trail - Displays where you are located within the Forum and provides quick links for navigating.

3. Group Name - Name for a grouping of similar forums. If you click on the Group Name it will take you to a view of just the forums for that group.

4. Forums - The Forum presents the name of the forum and a description of the forum can be provided. Click on the name of the forum to see the threads within that forum.

This is the Forum view that is presented when you click on a Forum Name from the Home View. It lists all of the threads for the current forum. The new components to point out in this view are:

1. Search - Allows you to search for a topic, term, or phrase within the current Forum's threads.

2. New Thread Button (only present when logged in) - Click this button to create a new thread within the current forum.

3. Forum Threads - List of threads for the current forum. Provides the name of the thread and the ID of the author who started the thread. The name of the thread can be clicked on to view the contents of the thread.

4. Thread Filter - Use this drop down box to filter the threads in the view to help locate a specific thread or limit the number of threads in view.

This is the thread view. It provides a list of all of the posts on this thread. The new components to point out on this view are:

1. Rate the Post (only available when logged in) - If this feature is turned on, which it is by default users give a rating for the post.

2. Previous/Next Buttons - Allows you to navigate to the next or previous thread in the forum.

3. Quote and Reply Buttons (only present when logged in) - Allows a user to Quote the post in a reply post or just to provide a reply post without quoting the post.

4. View and Sort Controls - Allows you to view and sort the list of posts in different ways.
